"One star because I couldn't leave ZERO. One of the staff lied to my wife! She told her our rate went up so high because of the age of our roof. We replaced our roof in November and our rate actually INCREASED AGAIN! Can't talk to the actual agent, but only his staff. Everything I've read says a homeowner policy should go down 15-35% in Virginia, with a new roof. Time to move all of our home and auto insurance to a reputable agent! BUYER BEWARE!"

"Never have posted a review but need to now…. Was quoted a policy in April 2025 and was told the reason my quote was so high was because my roof was 17 years old. I said I would be replacing it soon. I was told to send in the receipt when I did. I replaced my roof in November 25 and emailed my paid receipt. When I received my renewal this month, it is higher than last year! When I spoke to the rep. again today(I actually have never talked to Steve Sparkman), she said replacing the roof has no impact on my renewal. Now I don’t know about anyone else, but I call that a bold face LIE! I try to buy local and this is what I received!"

"I moved from Williamsburg, VA to Cary, NC in the summer of 2025. The DMV in NC is in chaos. I had to travel to another town (the wait in Cary was three months) and wait five hours to receive a NC driver's license and then go to a separate location on another day to obtain plates. Looking for auto coverage, I contacted the State Farm office closest to my Cary home three times. The person who finally returned my call was working from home, getting ready to retire, and suggested that I wait a bit before she wrote the NC auto insurance policy. Because I had moved out of state, Steve Sparkman's office was technically not underwriting my auto policy. BUT THEY STUCK WITH ME until I finally received coverage from State Farcm in NC. Lanie Reed called me often checking on my situation. She patiently listened to my complaints and stayed with me until I finally received auto coverage in NC. I am very grateful to Lanie for her understanding and the excellent and committed service I received from her. Now that I am back living in Williamsburg, it is a pleasure to have the Steve Sparkman Agency and Lanie underwrite my insurance needs."

"I give them one star because they keep going up on my car insurance, which is ridiculous since they are all old cars. They need to give a discount for disabled veterans. My husband is a disable vet. And the other reason I'm giving you one star is my husband hit a deer a year ago. Took his truck to Elite Body shop now Collision One in Kilmarnock, VA to get it repaired. The truck had been there a year and they have not started working on the truck. But they have been paid to repair this truck. This is unacceptable for Collision One to do this. It is also unacceptable for State Farm to let this happen and not do nothing about it. This is BAD FOR BUSINESS for COLLISION ONE AND STATE FARM.Visited your office on July 14th to pay my car insurace, supposed to have automatic draft. Until my husband went in the office to put insurance on a Chrysler NewYorker told them he wanted a separate policy. They added to the same policy he already had. Then they had to separate it and messed up the automatic draft. Had to pay the car insurance in person June and July. This was a inconvenience for me for something they messed up. When I visited the office on July 14th to pay the insurance the office Manager MICHELE OVERTON was very RUDE AND OBNOXIOUS. Told me I couldn't talk, also told me I couldn't tap my fingers on the counter. This is DISRESPECTFUL and UNACCEPTABLE to tell a paying CUSTOMER this. She is obviously not the sharpest tool in the shed. THE CUSTOMERS ARE THE ONE'S WHO PAYS YOUR SALARY. WITHOUT THE CUSTOMERS THERE WOULD BE NO STATE FARM. MICHELE OVERTON YOU NEED TO TAKE THAT SALARY AND BUY YOURSELF A PERSONALITY. I DOUBT THAT SALARY IS ENOUGH TO BUY YOU A PERSONALITY BECAUSE YOURS "STINKS" AMY REYNOLDS is very nice and pleasant. You need more employees like her."

"Linda Jones, I would like to respond by saying that I completely understand that the premium increases stink. Myself and everyone are having to pay more than we were in 2023. While we reduced premiums for all customers in 2020 through 2022, we are now having to increase due to the extreme increase in car values. It now costs a lot more to replace vehicles when they are totaled than before. I hope we see the pricing of vehicle parts and vehicle costs go down moving forward to give us the relief to lower rates. As far as the truck that has been in the shop, we want to pay the claim and cut the check when the work is done. I understand your husband has had a number of issues with the body shop he originally chose and that is a body shop issue. We are ready to pay any shop when they do the work. After speaking with your husband and understanding that he has taken the truck to another shop hopefully the work will finally get done. Keep in mind we don’t take part in repairing a vehicle. When you take a vehicle to a body shop to get work done that is between you and the shop. Sadly we have no control over that shops employees, processes, or ability to get the work done. However, once the work is done and billed we will then pay. I hope this clears up your perception of our role in the repair process. I did have the pleasure of speaking with your husband today and it sounds like the new body shop is going to be better. We do appreciate your husband's service and your business"

"I had a fabulous interaction with Kellie and she was able to save me money on a policy that offers more than my last policy offered, and she also helped me switch companies! "I got my supplemental health insurance with Emma from this office recently, and she is just wonderful! "I contacted State Farm today and talk to Emma Feller. I was calling to compare my current Auto policy. She displayed such knowledge, confidences and honesty you just had to be impressed. This what you want in an Insurance agent. Steve you have a winner here."

"If you like your monthly premium going up every month! This is your agent! My monthly premium has been going up for the last almost a year! And it seems like there’s no sign of stopping, I’ve had my insurance through this branch and company since I’ve had a license to drive! And that’s been about 35 years, talk about loyalty! But that’s ok there are plenty of other companies that will gladly insure my 5 vehicles! Get your insurance here if you like spending money!! No stars in my opinion but I had to leave one so this would go through."

"My team will be happy to review any increases with you to make sure you are taking advantage of all available discounts. While I cannot determine exactly who you are to reach out, it could benefit you, if you would reach out and make contact with the office. Here is an overview of what has been happening within the industry and rate increases. During the pandemic, State Farm, being a mutual company, owned by the policy holders, reduced rates 10-30% depending on location and the type of vehicle. The reason for such a reduction was that overall traffic and vehicle usage was way down and there was profit that needed to be distributed due to the lack of claims. State Farm found that the most cost effective way to distribute those funds was to reduce rates. During this time there was also a series of events that has had a massive impact on today’s rates. Those events were a chip shortage, factory shut downs due to Covid, stalled parts production and consumers having additional cash. The additional cash increased demand for vehicles and automotive prices drastically increased over 2021 and 2022. There was no formula for any insurance company to handle the situation of all the vehicles getting back on the road and now with vehicles that actually appreciated in value. We also had a Legislative change in Virginia, where the State legislature voted to make insurance companies increase payout and coverage for people who are injured by underinsured drivers, which created more pressure for additional increases in rates. However some customers have elected to opt out. The current increases in premium initially gets us back to the pre-pandemic rates and some additional rate to handle the drastic increases in automobiles pricing, increased parts pricing, increased labor pricing and the state legislation change. While most everyone got back on the road in 2022, we were able to hold off increases until this year. Please feel free to give us a call to review what we can do to help find a possible solution or discounts."

If you are looking for a nationwide insurance company that provides that local customer interaction that is lacking these days, the client reps in the local office are just who you are looking for.
